Our very own Pasta Necklaces!
After learning how to string beads earlier in the week, the playgroup class decided to have an art & craft activity and create some pasta necklaces. Not only did it allow the children to express their personalities through the different coloured pastas, it also helped them to develop their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination.
Mya giving her first shot at stringing the pennes together.
She also names the different colours of the penne pasta!
"I want to wear my necklace for outdoor time!" says Mya eagerly. Such a pretty necklace, isn't it? :)
Chun Hian had a little difficulty at the beginning and expressed frustration but....
He managed to do it after a few tries! Great job indeed!
Here he is, satisfied and happy with his necklace :)
Tsara creating her necklace with confidence and concentration.
Hard work pays off! Tsara looks good with her new accessory.
Gerard is doing well!
He is also naming the different colours of the penne pasta.
The final product- Gerard's colour necklace!
Jia Guan was a little frustrated when he could not do it at first.
But with practice and a little help, he managed to do it as well :)
Posing with his new accessory and feeling proud.
Sumi feeling happy with her completed penne necklace! She even said that she wanted to bring it home for mummy.
This activity also allowed children to regulate their emotions: from feeling frustrated to being determined to complete the task and eventually feeling proud of completing the task. Cheers to a boost in self-confidence and time of fun!

Sandpaper Shapes Collage!
Before this activity, the
children have actually explored things that are of different textures like
rough, smooth, hard and soft. The children were able to relate to the rough
texture that can be felt on the sand paper. They also gave different facial
expressions as they explore the texture of the sand paper.
Apart from learning about
texture, the children also had fun learning about the different shapes around
them. Some new shapes that they have learnt are such as diamond, oval and star.
They enjoyed relating the shapes to songs that they love such as twinkle
twinkle little stars.
Lets take a look at the pictures of the children in action! :)

Marie Biscuits Sweet Delights!
Home science lesson is a simple cookery lesson that is conducted on every Friday. Children are introduced to simple recipe where they will help out to prepare the delicacies which they will enjoy at the end of the day!
Home science lessons not only allow the children to explore their taste buds but they get their hands busy as they have fun during the preparations. They are in charge of mixing, pouring, shaping and even moulding the food!
As the children learn more about the ingredients that are being used, they uses their sense of smell, taste and even touch to get to know the food that they will be working on for the day.
Anson and Micheal carefully took out the biscuit and placed them into a ziplock bag as they count the number of biscuit that goes into the bag.
As they rolled the rolling pin, they also shared idea as how to prevent the ziplock bag from moving as they rolled. It allow them to think of a creative solution to solve the problem.
Tian Yi, Jialing and Micheal took turn to hold the rolling pin to crush the biscuits in the zip lock bag.
Jialing then took the bottle of honey and squeezed out the honey for the crushed biscuits. She swirled the honey all over the bowl.
Kai Yun then helped to scoop five spoonful of non-fat milk powder to be added into the mixture. The rest of the children helped Kai Yun to count as she does it.
