Playgroup’s KIC pre-activities
To get the playgroup children ready and excited for the KIC event, the children did a few art projects with the sports theme.
The first activity that they did was different types of ball mobiles. The types of balls chosen were Soccer, basketball, bowling and volley balls. Prior to the activity, the children were shown pictures of the different balls and they learnt the names.
Angel tore the newspapers into long strips before crushing them into balls. These will then be stuffed into the different types of ‘balls’ that the children have painted.

To seal the two sides of the ball together, Ethan used his finger to spread white glue onto the sides.
Once the balls have dried, strings are attached to them and then the teachers hung the balls.
The next activity would be the making of medals. Each of the children were given a printed template of the medals and they coloured them with crayons. Through this activity, the children learnt the purpose of medals.
Cedric and Fang Fei concentrated hard on colouring their medals. Both of them wanted a yellow medal.
After colouring, a silver ribbon was attached to the medal. Akash proudly showed his completed medal to his classmates and said, “Akash got medal.”
The children also made replicas of the Youth Olympic Games Torch.
The children drew on some patterns on the ‘body’ of the torch before painting blue paint over it. Zhi Qian was carefully spreading the blue paint on the torch.
Angel stuffed the orange and yellow coloured tissue paper into the torch to create the flames. Angel said, “Yellow and orange fire!”
